Profesorului Leon Zagrean ii revine meritul de a fi fost printre primii care au introdus notiunea de neurostiinte in Romania. De altfel, cercetatorul a initiat in calitate de șef al Catedrei de Fiziologie a Universitatii de Medicina si Farmacie „Carol Davila“ București, primul Laborator de Neurostiinte, actualmente Centru de Excelenta acreditat de CNCSIS.
